A new report from Semico Research forecasts the worldwide IP Market to approach 8 billion by 2019. The 3rd Party Semiconductor Intellectual Property (SIP) market has seen great innovation in the products it offers to System-on-a-Chip (SoC) designers over the last ten years.

If any market segment in the semiconductor industry typifies the intense evolutionary pressures that the entire electronics market has undergone, it is the 3rd Party SIP market.

Key findings of the report include: The Americas IP market was $897.2M in 2014. The CPU IP market will account for 33.4% of total IP revenues by 2019. The Chinese IP market is forecast to reach $1,308.4 million by 2019. The Security IP market will account for 6.9% of IP revenues by 2019.

“The number of SIP blocks used in SoCs at all geometries continues to increase and is a main driver of market growth, ” says Richard Wawrzyniak, Sr. Market Analyst for ASIC & SoC at Semico.

“Another driver is the continued increase in the number of SoCs shipping into the market so you see 3rd Party SIP market revenues driven along two axies: larger numbers of SIP blocks on increasing numbers of SoCs. All this against the backdrop of the need for higher device performance at ever lower power consumption.  This is a powerful combination that will continue to drive SIP market revenues higher for the foreseeable future.”

It seems the SIP market grows steadily. In March 2014, a research made by Markets and Markets estimated that the global Semiconductor IP market by revenue is estimated to reach $5.63 billion in 2020 at a CAGR of 12.6% from 2014 to 2020.

Today, the biggest player in the SIP market is probably ARM Holdings from the UK, that grew 15% this year and reached total revenues of $705 million in H1 2015.
